POSITION SUMMARY:
The Tax/Payroll Analyst is responsible for managing payroll related taxes, compliance with company policy, state, and federal regulations. Serves as a point of contact for internal and external audits related to payroll and tax on a bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. Responsible for projects associated with the maintenance of payroll tax records, implementation of tax updates and relevant reporting. Collaborates with Payroll, Benefits, HR Operations, finance, and other teams as necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws.
- Partners with HR Operations to ensure accurate set up of multistate tax profiles including set up of new state tax jurisdictions, municipalities, and locals in Smart Compliance.
- Resolves employee related tax issues and processes W2Cs as needed.
- Assists the Finance department with payroll funding, bank reconciliation inquiries and audits.
- Prepares required documents for internal/external auditors, SOX compliance, state audits and government responses to related inquires.
- Liaisons with the Department of Labor and State Agencies providing data and wage reports upon request.
- Identifies and processes prior Quarter Adjustments for employee errors due to incorrect taxes and benefits errors/reimbursements for 401K/Cafeteria 125.
- Partners with benefits for restricted stock updates required for employee vesting periods and updates ADP accordingly for accurate W2 reporting.
- Scans and maintains mail, state agency invoices, and garnishments via ADP Smart Compliance
- Validates and reconciles quarterly wage and tax reports and third-party sick pay for accurate year-end and W2 processing.
- Processes Canadian payroll biweekly and reviews year-end T4 statements.
- Assists the Payroll Manager with special projects as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to prioritize tasks and complete timely with minimal direction.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to interact at all levels of the organization with diplomacy, integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a strong attention to detail.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
- Experience processing Prior Quarter Adjustments for employee errors due to incorrect taxes and benefits errors/reimbursements for 401K/Cafeteria 125.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, experience with advanced excel functions preferred (i.e. vlookup, pivots).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in payroll/tax or related disciplines
- 3-5 years tax and payroll experience
- ADP Vantage, ADP Smart compliance and ADP Reporting experience strongly preferred.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
- Canadian payroll, Ceridian Power Pay and DayForce experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- May require occasional travel.
