Our mission is to provide the children of Harlem and the Bronx with educational opportunities through a rigorous, comprehensive K-8 program that cultivates the intellectual, social and emotional development of each child. Our students, who include children with autism spectrum disorders, will become independent learners and critical thinkers, will acquire the academic skills that they need to succeed in college preparatory high schools, and will exhibit the social and emotional skills that will allow them to reach their full potential.
THE OPPORTUNITYWe are seeking an experienced, highly organized, detail-oriented, energetic talent leader who has experience in the NYC charter education world and is committed to urban education. We are looking for someone with prior leadership experience and someone who is excited by the challenge of working for a growing organization that has plans to replicate. This role reports to the Executive Director.
NCS currently serves nearly 1000 students and 200 staff across three locations in Harlem and the Bronx. Over the next five years, the Neighborhood Charter Schools will aim to hire approximately 50 outstanding candidates each year to work at our school and network office. The Director of Talent leads the strategy and is ultimately responsible for all aspects of talent planning and acquisition, managing a Talent Associate who is responsible for the execution of key aspects of this work. This role will work in partnership with the Director of Human Resources, ensuring that there are robust systems in place to support the subsequent stages of the talent management lifecycle.
WHAT YOU’LL DOThe core responsibilities of the Director of Talent at Neighborhood Charter Schools include:Vision & Strategy
- Set the vision, goals, and measures of success for all aspects of talent sourcing and acquisition, sequencing priorities over time as needed
- Develop systems and tools to monitor progress, measure the effectiveness of strategy and drive communication and collaboration with key stakeholders
- Actively monitor current organizational talent needs, anticipate future needs and recommend priorities to the Executive Director.
- Ensure development of clear career paths to drive retention and growth of high-performing staff
- Build and maintain relationship with Relay GSE and other key external partners to support the development of key talent pipelines
- Develop and manage team members to support best in class talent acquisition
- Lead organization-wide strategy around employee engagement in support strong employee satisfaction
- Work closely with the Director of Leadership Development on talent development cycles, as needed
Outreach, Cultivation & Selection
- Design, coordinate and execute long term and short term strategy for sourcing teacher candidates and other key roles as identified by the organization
- Collaborate with hiring managers to design acquisition strategy, selection processes, materials and stakeholder participation for each role
- Build skill in managers to effectively implement strong selection and cultivation practices
- Ensure open roles are filled in a timely manner, either through direct action, collaboration with hiring managers or supporting the Talent Associate
- Manage and engage in dynamic problem solving for the most ambiguous and challenging staffing scenarios, including senior leader transitions and confidential searches
- Develop strategy for leveraging social media as a tool to support outreach and cultivation
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate will bring the following experiences, skills and mindsets:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in talent strategy with expertise in recruitment and selection or 3-5 years experience in teaching and leadership in the Charter Sector
- Experience working in urban education and NYC charter schools
- Track record of successfully managing and developing others
- Working knowledge of NY state teacher certification
- A Bachelors degree (required)
- Strategic thinking skills and the ability to translate vision into action
- Relationship building and management skills and the ability utilize them to support the achievement of common goals
- Highly effective verbal and written communicator who demonstrates attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work both autonomously and collaboratively effectively
- Ability to manage time and set priorities, consistently meet deadlines
- Places a high value on delivering quality internal and external focused customer service
- Prioritize your own continuous learning and desire feedback
- Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint or google suite alternatives
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary range: $85,000-$100,000 annually
