Position Summary / Career Interest:
The Benefits Specialist provides professional, technical, and administrative support for the day-to-day functions and related tasks of the Employee Benefits Program. Serves as employee liaison with vendors and providers. Responds to both routine and complex employee benefit questions. Resolves benefit issues, reporting and reconciliation problems. Conducts benefit and payroll audits. Prepares ftp site uploads for benefit vendors. Makes payments to third party providers. Participates in vendor, provider, staff and unit meetings. Coordinates the annual enrollment process, preparation of employee communications, and employee events. Prepares reports and compiles statistical data. Maintains benefit records, data bases and adequate supply of benefit materials. Conducts New Employee Orientation, assists with supervisory and management training, and participates in special projects.
Responsibilities:
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
- Serves as a point of contact for the employee benefit program.
- Provides professional, administrative and technical support for the Medical, Supplemental Medical, Dental, Vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Supplemental Life, Voluntary Benefits (Whole Life, Critical Illness, Home and Auto Insurance, Pet Insurance, Hyatt Legal, Identity Theft Protection), Employee Assistance Program and Employee Discount Programs.
- Continues to increase knowledge and remain up to date on benefit regulations and practices by attending periodic benefit updates, seminars, webinars and reading professional journal articles.
- Coordinates and organizes all aspects of the on-going and the annual benefits enrollment process, including but not limited to Employee Benefit Fairs, New Employee Orientation, production of collateral materials, production of the annual Benefits Guide, mailings, intranet postings, and employee communications.
- Responsible for the day-to-day administration of assigned benefit programs, responding to emails and phone calls, processing of Qualified Life Events and reviewing, entering and approving information in the benefits enrollment system and auditing current processes for data integrity and accuracy.
- Coordinates or participates in special projects related to compensation and benefits and general Human Resources.
- Develops a wide variety of written materials in partnership with internal communications staff and external benefit consultants to provide written reference and convey information on the various benefit programs and options.
- Maintains and enters data into Workday HRIS, Bswift, and other databases and spreadsheets related to the administration of the employee benefits program.
- Maintains employee benefit records, databases, benefit files, the general HR File Room and manages off-site employee records. Participates in departmental, staff and vendor service meetings.
- Reconciles enrollments, billings and employee records to ensure adequate eligibility and payment information and compliance with contract provisions.
- Researches and resolves benefit and billing questions from employees, vendors, providers and payroll.
- Conducts biweekly benefit audits. Prepares vendor payments, employee deduction refunds and collects missed deductions from employees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 3+ years previous experience working with corporate benefits administration or insurance programs for a benefits provider or broker
Preferred:
- CEBS Certification
- PHR Certification
