Position: Human Resources Manager
Reports to: Executive Director
Compensation: $27/hr - $30/hr
Hours: PT 20-25 hrs.
Organization
MiA - Mujeres in Action is the only organization in the Spokane region providing culturally responsive intervention services primarily to Latinx survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault (DV/SA), and conducting prevention efforts in Spanish.
Since fall of 2018, MiA has been helping Latine families find safety, stability and independence as well as forming key partnerships with other agencies to expand services to the Latinx community. To learn more about MiA, please visit www.miaspokane.org.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for the day-to-day administrative and human resources functions, policies and procedures and recruitment, training and development, compensation and benefits, employee relations and Labor Laws and Legal Compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate organization's HR needs, develop programs, policies with leadership support, showing a commitment to deconstructing white dominant culture and promoting equity.
- Work independently, resolve HR issues, consult as needed, while actively incorporating an equity lens into decision-making processes.
- Collaborate with leadership, employees for HR functions, fostering an inclusive workplace culture that values diversity and promotes belonging.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, organizational policies, with a focus on fostering an inclusive and equitable work environment for all employees.
- Provide guidance on personnel performance, management, transformative justice, prioritizing fairness and equity in all interactions.
- Support staff in their development, including training, with a focus on addressing systemic biases
- Maintain confidentiality of information, ensuring equitable treatment of all employees in accordance with organizational values and principles.
- Implement HR initiatives for staffing, benefits, compensation, employee relations, retention
- Update personnel files, handle verification requests
- Review, adapt organization's policies, procedures, and practices through an equity lens, striving for fairness and inclusivity for all employees.
- Recruit diverse candidates, conduct interviews, hiring process
- Provide training with leadership support, focusing on fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace culture.
- Conduct new employee orientation promptly
- Assist in planning employee activities, events, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity among all employees.
- Provide victim services on MiA's hotline as needed
- Maintain 20 hours of on-going training in DV and 12 hours of on-going training in SA issues annually.
- Perform other assigned duties
Position Qualifications
REQUIRED
- FLUENT in English and Spanish, in written and oral communication.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization, from different backgrounds
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing DEI strategies and programs within organizations, including training, policy development, and cultural competency initiatives
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Must be self-motivated, able to prioritize tasks, and manage their time effectively
- Able to maintain accurate records, both written and digital, and keep confidentiality.
- Thorough understanding of EEO and other related employment laws and guidelines.
- Able to work with staff using a collaborative team approach.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex HR issues, identify root causes and system problems, and develop practical solutions to address them.
- Willing to be on-call on the helpline on a limited basis.

- Holds a valid WA Driver’s License and has dependable transportation
- Be able to pass a criminal and child abuse background check.
PREFERRED
- A demonstrated understanding and interest in issues surrounding domestic and sexual violence and other topics relating to survivors from diverse Latine backgrounds
- Previous experience working in small to medium-sized organizations
- Holding a professional HR certification such as the Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR)
- Familiarity with payroll administration processes, including calculating wages, processing payroll, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations
- Previous experience in designing, delivering, or coordinating employee training and development programs
- Experience working with domestic and/or sexual assault survivors
- Manages difficult or emotional situations
- A respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and a desire to promote a harassment-free environment
- Ability to engage in constructive self‐care activities to manage secondary trauma
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, business or related field preferred, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2 years of experience in HR or similar role
- Domestic violence and/or advocacy experience strongly desired
- Must complete about 38 hours of of initial DV/SA victim advocacy training

Hours, Pay, Benefits
- Mon-Fri 9am-4pm with schedule flexibility
